Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The main interests of the Spalding research group are to investigate properties of human adipose tissue, with particular attention to human adipocyte biology. We investigate basic cellular functions, such as senescence, adipocyte lipid and cell turnover, adipocyte responses to obesity and hyperinsulinemia and cellular heterogeneity in human adipose tissue depots. Understanding how adipocytes respond to obesity and their contributions to health and pathology in humans, is a major focus of the group. This focus, and our well established collaborations with clinicians within Sweden and abroad, maximizes our potential to translate our research findings to the clinic.

Your mission

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing core techniques central to the laboratory’s research. This includes handling human tissue (tissue dissection, cell and nuclei isolation), immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy, molecular biology (DNA and RNA isolation, qPCR, protein analyses including western blot and ELISA/Mesoscale), comet assay and cell and tissue culture.

Your profile

To be eligible, an applicant must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedicine, molecular biology or molecular biotechnology Masters
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques, including qPCR, western blot and protein assays
  • Histology and immunocytochemistry techniques and confocal microscopy
  • Comet DNA damage assay
  • Senescence (SABG assay)
  • The applicant must speak and write fluent English

Preference will be given to candidates who have expertise in the above techniques in human adipose tissue.

  • Personal skills
