Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a new multidisciplinary neuroscience project investigating variability in brain signal variability and rapid plasticity in both humans and zebrafish using different data and methods (e.g. magnetic resonance imaging of humans, and calcium imaging and electrophysiology of zebrafish). The project is part of a recently awarded Karolinska Institutet Research Incubator (KIRI) project and applications are now invited for a co-supervised postdoctoral position in the Månsson Lab (Department of Clinical Neuroscience) and Ampatzis Lab (Department of Neuroscience).

The Månsson Lab, led by Dr Kristoffer Månsson, investigates psychiatric and non-clinical populations with the goal of elucidating the role of moment-to-moment variability in neural response, as a prognostic factor for psychiatric treatment outcomes. The Ampatzis Lab, led by Dr Konstantinos Ampatzis, focuses on adaptive mechanisms that occur in the central nervous system in response to physiological and pathophysiological stimuli.

Your mission

We are looking for a highly motivated, knowledgeable and experienced postdoctoral researcher to combine science in both basic animal research and human clinical neuroscience. You will be responsible for analyzing brain data acquired with methods such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), magnetoencephalography (MEG), epigenome-wide DNA methylation, calcium imaging and immunofluorescence imaging.

The work will mainly focus on computational and statistical analyses. Månsson and Ampatzis Lab use different methods and tools and it is therefore possible to adapt the candidates responsibilities according to their background and expertise. As a postdoc, we want you to thrive, have fun at work, and be able to continue developing a successful track-record for a future in academia. Your main position will be in the Månsson Lab but you will be a key member of both teams.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

We are looking for a highly motivated, driven, and enthusiastic person sharing our interest in inter-disciplinary research and is ready to explore new avenues in science. The candidates should have a collaborative approach to science, a high degree of independence, but also being able to effectively work in an inter-disciplinary team. We value a postdoc that contributes to a good social environment in our respective laboratories.

The applicant shall hold a PhD degree and have a strong expertise in computations and data analytics (e.g., statistics, math, artificial intelligence, machine learning). Candidates with previous experience with computational imaging analysis, and/or bioinformatics will be prioritized. The candidate should have documented experience with coding/programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, python, bash scripting, R). Experience with multivariate statistical methods and machine learning are significant merits. Experience with human neuroimaging and calcium imaging is not required but is considered merit. Fluency in English is a requirement.
