At the Department of Oncology-Pathology basic, translational and clinical research and educational activities related to cancer are carried out. Approximately 300 people from over 40 nations are currently working in the department. About 30 research groups with various cancer research profiles are involved and we have around 110 PhD students.

A Lab Manager position is available in the Cancer proteomics Mass spectrometry research and Core Facility lab, headed by Professor Janne Lehtiö at Science for Life Laboratory (SciLifeLab). Karolinska Institutet is one of the four founding universities for SciLifeLab, which is a national infrastructure and research center for technology driven life sciences. The Lehtiö group is a translational group of scientists with a drive to improve human proteome analysis by developing new methods that can be applied to improve personalized cancer treatment. The research group is also closely associated with the our Clinical Proteomics Mass Spectrometry facility that provides fee-for-service sample analysis as well as support to plan and perform larger in-depth proteomics project. Your mission

We are looking for an outstanding Lab Manager to the clinical proteomics research lab and core facility. The work involves a combination of flexible and routine tasks and places a great emphasis on independence, initiative, precision, and planning.

Your role will be:

  • Management: Ensuring compliance with laboratory regulatory requirements; conducting laboratory inspections as necessary and generally overseeing the smooth operation of the lab in accordance with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2).
  • Biosafety: Keeping the necessary record of safety data sheets (MSDS) for all Materials and Chemicals handled in the lab up to date. Chemical registration and waste regulations (KLARA). Make sure all lab safety risk assessment according to Swedish Work Environment standards are up to date and update the lab safety plan accordingly.
  • Training: ensuring that new team members are introduced to use laboratory equipment and supplies adequately, as well as scheduling safety training.
  • Operations: Monitoring and keeping the lab inventory, ordering supplies (chemicals, reagents, consumables, raw materials, personal protective equipment, etc.) as necessary and receiving deliveries of these orders.
  • Support to the core facility and research group: sample preparation and bio analytical work
  • Maintenance: Ensuring that all lab equipment and instruments function correctly and organizing repair or maintenance of said equipment as necessary. Overseeing the cleaning, sanitizing and housekeeping of the lab and organizing waste management. Routine control of freezers, incubators, etc.
  • Contracts: Negotiating, establishing and following up on maintenance, PM’s/calibration, consumable supplier contracts and software licenses

Your profile

Entry requirement and qualifications

Your role as lab manager includes being responsible for performing a wide range of duties and tasks related to overseeing the operations and high-quality running of our scientific laboratory and core facility. You will not only be lab manager, but also run proteomics experiments within research and core facility projects

Qualifications

  • University degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biomedicine, biotechnology or in a related field
  • Previous experience in working as lab manager or similar responsibility of organizing and maintaining a laboratory
  • Documented responsibilities of laboratory regulatory assignments (e.g., chemical inventory, risk assessments etc.)
  • Documented broad working experience in cell- and molecular experimental methods
  • Experience of working in cross-functional teams with different backgrounds and from different disciplines.
  • Fluent in English language, both written and spoken.

Additional merits

  • Knowledge of cancer biology and current translational cancer research and in large-scale methods such as for instance transcriptomics and/or MS-based proteomics.
  • Experience working in core facility settings
