Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology. CMB is located in Biomedicum, a new interdisciplinary research center designed to concentrate much of the experimental research conducted at Karolinska Institutet Campus Solna under one roof to promote collaboration. Biomedicum houses approximately 1,200 researchers and other personnel and allows expensive equipment to be shared and utilized more effectively.

Division

The research group of Jonas Muhr is studying how stem cells are regulated in the brain and its derived tumours. One important focus of their research is to examine molecular mechanisms preventing stem cells from contributing to tumour growth. The Muhr group is addressing these questions at the protein and genome-wide level as well as in orthotopic tumour models in mice.

Your mission

The successful candidate will work together with members of the research group and examine how tumour suppressor responses can be activated in healthy and malignant brain stem cells. The work will include molecular analyses of key regulatory networks as well as studies of tumour stem cells both in vitro and in relevant tumour models in mice.

Your profile

We are currently looking for a highly motivated person. A successful candidate for this position should have a broad knowledge base in molecular biology and cell biology. It is essential that the candidate has documented experience working with genome-wide techniques and protein analyses. Moreover, as the project includes in vivo models, the candidate must be experienced in working with mice. The candidate should have a PhD in stem cell biology, developmental biology, cancer biology or equivalent and has typically published significant scientific articles relating to this area of research. However, we stress research expertise when assessing applicants.
