Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for an ambitious postdoc with skills in immunology to perform cutting-edge research in the Tim Willinger research group. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you may contribute to high-quality research on an internationally competitive level.

Division

We are a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive team within the Center for Infectious Medicine (CIM). CIM is a research unit within the Department of Medicine Huddinge and one of the leading translational research centers in immunity and infectious diseases in Europe. CIM is located within Karolinska Institutet's newly established research facility, ANA Futura, which offers excellent infrastructure at the forefront of research.

The Willinger group studies fundamental questions related to immune cell ontogeny, migration, and function as shown in our recent high-impact publications (Immunity 48(1):120, 2018; Immunity 54:259, 2021; J Exp Med 219:e20210987, 2022). To make our studies relevant to humans, we have developed innovative models that allow us to study the cells and function of the human immune system in vivo (Nature Biotechnology 32:364, 2014).

 Duties

The successful candidate will join our team to investigate the role of the oxysterol-GPR183 pathway in the immune response against cancer. We previously showed that cholesterol metabolites (oxysterols) recognized by the receptor GPR183 regulate immune cell migration, lymphoid tissue formation, and inflammatory responses (Immunity 48(1):120, 2018). The ongoing project continues our successful line of research and uses in-vivo models (genetically modified mice), advanced multi-color flow cytometry, immunofluorescence microscopy, and single-cell RNA-sequencing. The postdoc is expected to play a leading role in experimental design, experimentation, analysis, and presentation/publication of results to drive his/her own project forward.

Entry requirements

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

To qualify, the applicant must have a PhD in immunology or equivalent with first-author publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals. Merit is given to applicants who have previous experience with immunological techniques, such as multicolor flow cytometry and immunofluorescence microscopy. Practical experience with performing animal experiments and working with genetically modified mice is highly desirable. The candidate should be highly motivated, have good communication skills, and the ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team of international researchers. Fluency in English is a requirement. Emphasis will be placed on scientific track record, past experience with immunological methods and mouse models as well as personal suitability.
