You will join the dynamic and cooperative group of Prof. Maja Jagodic at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, which offers the opportunity to contribute to research in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The group is a member of the Karolinska Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (KNIMS) network which gathers around 60 researchers working on different aspects of MS pathogenesis. You will therefore benefit from a highly collaborative and engaged research environment committed to exploring innovative ideas in precision medicine.

Your mission

We strive to unveil molecular mechanisms underlying Multiple Sclerosis using large scale omics approaches in unique clinical samples in combination with functional experiments. The successful candidate will implement bioinformatics pipelines to analyze data from next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies. The scope of the work is 30% and includes handling of biosamples, NGS library preparation, data processing, quality control, analysis, visualization and presentation. The candidate is expected to interact with many group members and collaborators and to develop and act in accordance with the common group goals and research interests. 

Your profile

We are looking for a candidate who shares our passion for translational research, is ready to join our very collaborative team and is highly motivated to perform both wet-lab and computational work. The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Requirements

  • BSc degree in life sciences
  • Knowledge of genetics and immunology
  • Programming proficiency in R and other languages
  • Demonstrated skills in NGS data analysis (e.g. scRNA-seq)
  • Experience with high-performance computing
  • Demonstrated wet-lab skills (e.g. molecular biology, flow cytometry etc.)
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English

Merits

  • Well developed communication skills and the ability to collaborate.
  • Have wet-lab experience in order to process samples.
  • Medical education is meriting due to the translational scope of the projects.
  • Previous research article authorship is also a merit.
