Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Are you looking to make a significant difference by contributing to the unraveling of novel pain transmission mechanisms that would improve the lives of pain sufferers?

We are seeking an ambitious post-doctoral scientist with strong research and communication skills to contribute to high visibility research projects Trigeminal Pain Research Group. Your work will contribute to the understanding of the unique pain-generating mechanisms from oral tissues with focus on the tooth pulp. The ability to prevent, alleviate and cure tooth-related pain is greatly hampered by a lack of knowledge of how terminal dental pulp nerves are electrically activated. You will employ cutting-edge techniques in genetics, molecular imaging, computational science to delineate the processes that underlie dental pain. Long-term project outcomes should broadly impact both basic pain-related neurobiology and practices for clinical pain therapy.

Your mission

In the role as postdoc researcher, you will:

  • Discover novel biology and build translatable assays to validate human trigeminal pain pathways.
  • Collaborate with academic experts in the field of trigeminal pain biology.
  • Be part of an experienced neurobiology team comprising scientists from many areas of molecular and genetic research and development.
  • Identify key research gaps and champion creative solutions to address those gaps.
  • Maintain external awareness and learning to benefit the organization.
  • Present findings at conferences and publish in high quality peer-reviewed journals.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in Neuroscience or life science related field
  • Strong background in developmental neurobiology
  • Published work using cutting-edge methods in tissue

Additional Skills/Preferences

If you are described with these skills, you could be a great fit for the role:

  • Experienced with tissue imaging using immunohistochemistry.
  • Prior work or knowledge of single cell sequencing.
  • Optogenetic experience desirable but not necessary.
  • Self-directed and highly motivated individual who wants to learn new techniques while continually pursuing research and publication goals.
  • Excellent communicator (oral and written) with presentation experience, along with a strong publication record.
  • Proficient in data analysis and reporting (PRISM, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Spotfire, etc.)
