The laboratory of Professor Thomas Helleday provides an excellent translational and scientific environment. The multidisciplinary research group is located at Science for Life Laboratory and consists of Ph.D. students, postdocs, and senior scientists within biology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology, many with experience from the pharmaceutical industry.

Your mission

We are looking for a highly motivated and lab-experienced research assistant for the Helleday group. Your main task will be to plan and perform in vitro cell culture experiments in the laboratory. Your work will be very varied and will include, several molecular biology techniques including cell culturing, PCR, western blotting, fluorescence microscopy, and immunohistology staining techniques.

In more detail, you will contribute to a further understanding of the role of DNA repair and metabolisms proteins in cancer and characterise small molecules inhibiting these pathways. To support the clinical findings and development we still need to further investigate biomarkers, combination treatments, and potential resistance mechanisms and obtain a deeper understanding of the mechanism of action of the compounds.

Your profile

The following qualifications are required:

  • A MSc in Cell or/and Molecular Biology or Biotechnology.
  • Previous documented laboratory experience.
  • Previous documented experience establishing disease models within oncology
  • Cell lab experience such as handling and culturing of various cells both blood and solid cancer cells
  • Previous documented experience with standard cellular techniques, cellular viability/survival assays and molecular biology techniques, eg qPCR, Cloning, Confocal imaging, protein purification and virus techniques, CETSA, and Western blot, is a requirement.
  • Previous documented experience with immunohistology technologies is a requirement
  • Previous documented experiences of techniques such as DARTS, and cell synergy experiments are merit.
  • You need to be able to work in an organized and timely manner and experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and GraphPad Prism.
