Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations.

Your mission

MTC is looking for an experienced experienced molecular biologist for the role as research specialist for Professor Gunilla Karlsson Hedestam's research group to contribute to projects concerning B cell immunology and analysis of immune repertoires through Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). The goal of the research group is to increase the understanding of how variation in germline-encoded immune receptor genes shapes the diversity and function of the adaptive immune response.

The tasks mainly include molecular biological methods for analyzing sample collections with NGS and other molecular biological methods, as well as the organization of samples and protocols in close collaboration with researchers in the group. We are looking for a person who is willing to support several group members and ongoing projects and thus is not expecting to have his/her own research project.

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

  • To be qualified for the position you should have a PhD and several years of experience (>6 years) from working in molecular biology-oriented research laboratories, and a good basic understanding of genetics and genomics.
  • You should have a genuine wish to support other group members in several parallel research projects, with excellent organization and documentation skills.

Assessment criteria

When assessing the applicants, we will prioritize applicants with extensive experience of practical work in molecular biology and genetics with excellent references from previous workplaces. The group uses exclusively English as a working language.
