Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Division of Infectious Diseases performs research and education in close collaboration with the Karolinska University Hospital. The research teams address a wide range of infectious diseases using clinical, epidemiological, and experimental approaches.

The Sundling Research Team focuses on understanding the immune response to different pathogens with the aim to find biomarkers to better distinguish them on a molecular level. We are now recruiting a postdoctoral researcher who will focus on experimental immunology to investigate how the immune system is affected by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). The studies involve both experimental lab work and bioinformatic analysis. The studies are based on well-characterized cohorts recruited in Sweden and via collaborators.

Your mission

The postdoctoral researcher will design experimental studies to investigate mechanisms of how immune cells respond to stimulation with mycobacterial antigens and then apply to novel diagnostic approaches. The project will also include analysis and visualization of large datasets and the potential integration of different types of data. The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in all parts of the projects, ranging from generating research hypotheses, planning, and executing laboratory work, data analysis, supervision of students, statistical analysis, and writing scientific publications

Your profile

The candidate must hold a Ph.D. equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree in the field of microbiology, biology, or biomedicine by the agreed starting date (preliminary starting date of March 1, 2023). The applicant should have extensive knowledge and practical experience in cell work, including flow cytometry. Experience with bioinformatics analysis of immunological datasets, using R is advantageous. Previous work with Mtb is meriting.

The candidate is expected to be organized and able to work independently. The project is pursued in an interdisciplinary environment with collaboration with several international research groups, and good collaborative skills are a requirement. Fluency in English is mandatory.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctor a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This eligibility requirement must be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the employment decision. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier.
