Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) at Karolinska Institutet has about 280 researchers, doctoral students, statisticians, programmers, data collectors, database administrators and administrative staff. The department is also host to KI Biobank and is responsible for the Swedish Twin Registry. The organization has the critical resources and the infrastructure needed (servers/IT systems, database managers, and statisticians) to perform significant and innovative large-scale register studies.

The psychiatric epidemiology group at MEB is now looking for a postdoc who wants to advance the knowledge about the long-term treatment effects of ADHD medication. The candidate will also work partly in an EU Horizon 2020 project TIMESPAN (https://timespan.eu/).

Your mission

We are looking for an outstanding and motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team. The successful applicant will work on projects to understand the long-term treatment effects of ADHD medication and treatment effect heterogeneity, by performing advanced pharmacological and epidemiological analyses on real-world data.

The postdoctoral researcher will work with an international research team. The main role involves data management, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and career development initiatives, including submitting funding applications.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

The successful applicant is expected to have:

  • Experience and knowledge in conducting epidemiology studies on neurodevelopmental disorders, such as ADHD.
  • Experience in handling large-scale health record data, such as Nordic register-based data.
  • Advanced data management skills using statistical software (e.g., SAS, R or Python).
  • Experience in systematic review and meta-analysis, as well as formulating research questions based on existing evidence in the field.
  • Experience in conducting pharmacoepidemiological studies to investigate both short-term and long-term treatment effects using different study designs and statistical methods.
  • Self-motivated personality, as well as good project and time management ability.

This is a 2-year position.
