We are searching a colleague to work in an European collaborative project on alcohol policy and health. We use data from, and collaborate with, the world leading Global Burden of Disease project (GBD and we develop an instrument to measure alcohol policy in different countries. We collaborate with senior scientists and also civic society organizations in different European countries.

Description of the subject area

The subject area is Social medicine – Public health within the Department of Global Public Health (GPH). The research group has teams with main focus on psychiatric epidemiology, alcohol and drugs, and migration.

Your mission

You will work in a team at KI that forms the hub in a European network. Through contact persons from different countries, data on alcohol policy over time in different countries are collected. Health data are extracted and analyzed from the GBD worldwide database, mainly at KI but in collaboration with partners in Europe.

You will organize and coordinate data collection from different countries. You will collect policy data through internet searches and personal contacts independently and through collaborators. You will find persons who can translate, and together with these complete a protocol for analysis.

You will also organize and coordinate the collection of health data over time from the GBD database. You will extract, download and analyze health data from different countries. You will work with others who will assist in this data collection.

The position is on 50-100% according to agreement. Time of employment is one year with possibility of extension.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for employment as a Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated research expertise as well as have documented research experience after defending their doctoral dissertation.

The applicant should have:

• Experience of international collaboration and good documented experience of the English language, oral and written.
• Experience of collecting and analyzing health data and using registerbased health data.
• Good competence in using statistical program packages such as SAS or STATA.
• Experience of work with alcohol/drug research or policy.
• Experience of independently collecting, organizing and analyzing data for quantitative analysis.

Assessment criteria

• Experience of national policy work within the public health area, e.g. through work in politics, national/regional authority or civic society, is a merit.
• Good knowledge of one or more European languages, besides English, is a merit.
• Good competence in collaboration and making contacts in international settings is a merit.
