Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Department

The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, and biostatistics. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectors and database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total some 250 staff.

Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit. Researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). Only researchers who are interested in this model should consider applying.

The department is situated at campus Solna. Further information can be found at ki.se/en/meb.

Your mission

The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for six years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer. Senior lecturer (lektor) is the second highest position, after professor, in the Swedish academic career structure and is equivalent to associate professor in the North American system. The purpose of the employment as Assistant Professor is to develop research as an independent researcher and acquire the scientific and pedagogical qualifications required for eligibility for appointment as Senior Lecturer. Our goal is to recruit the strongest scientists in biostatistics, irrespective of research area.

Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor. Bases of assessment

Scientific expertise in biostatistics will be most important when assessing applicants. The research plan submitted with the application will be an important component of the assessment.  The applicant must demonstrate the potential to obtain external financing within their area of research. Pedagogical experience and leadership qualities are meritorious. Those eligible should show a strong potential to achieve the requirements for promotion to senior lecturer within the designated time.
