The Department of Global Public Health is a multidisciplinary department with the aim to advance knowledge about challenges and opportunities for public health in a local, national, and global setting. Under the umbrella of the Health Systems and Policy research group, we are starting a new project on global adolescent health financing.

This project will contribute to the second Lancet Commission on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing. It will include case studies of the Global Financing Facility for Women, Children and Adolescents (GFF) in four countries to understand the opportunities and challenges of this financing mechanism for adolescent health and wellbeing in countries. This project will look at how adolescent health and wellbeing is identified in the country GFF investment case, the financial mapping of investors including government budget allocation, assess implementation progress towards program goals, youth and other stakeholder engagement and where possible, the financial flows towards the ultimate recipients/users at community level.

Your mission

As a research assistant you will support and contribute to a) the preparation of the four case studies (including preparing ethics applications, analytical framework, interview guides and protocols for the document reviews), b) the review of documents from the four countries, c) the analysis of data from the document reviews and key-informant interviews (the interviews will be conducted by research assistants in-country), d) the drafting of four case study reports, and support e) the drafting of a peer-reviewed publications drawing lessons from across the four case studies.

You will be reporting to postdoctoral researcher Olivia Biermann who will be leading the work, in close collaboration with Dr Mariam Claeson, senior project manager. This position does not involve any travels.

The position is part-time (80%) for 12 months with start in February 2023.

Your profile

Requirements for the position are as follows:

  • MSc in health economics, health policy or a similar area
  • Very good qualitative research skills
  • Very good literature review skills
  • Very good scientific writing skills
  • Excellent English language skills (in speech and writing)
  • Excellent skills in communication, collaboration, organization and time management
