Postdoctoral Researcher in Infection Medicine

The Center for Infectious Medicine is a dynamic research unit within the Department of Medicine Huddinge with a focus on the human immune system and infectious diseases. CIM is located within Karolinska Institutet's newly established research facility, ANA Futura, which offers excellent infrastructure at the forefront of research. CIM consists of 16 independent research groups where all doctoral students and postdocs work in an integrated research environment. The candidate will be part of Anna Norrby-Teglund and Mattias Svensson's research group, which offers a unique opportunity to work closely together with preclinical and clinical experts in infectious medicine.

Your mission

We are looking for 1-2 postdocs to head research projects in precision medicine in sepsis. The goal is to identify biomarkers that can improve the diagnosis of sepsis patients and enable tailored treatments in specific patient groups. The studies will include analyses of patient material with the aim of generating new knowledge about both host- and pathogen-related mechanisms that contribute to the disease and outcome of sepsis. The applicant will use advanced omics and immunological analyses to explore immune responses and pathogen characteristics in patients with bacterial sepsis, as well as carry out in vitro infection studies in human experimental systems, including advanced organotypic tissue models.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

Applicants must have advanced knowledge and practical experience in immunology, cell biology and/or infectious medicine. Experience in these areas must be proven through published work in well renowned journals. Knowledge in bioinformatics and data-driven modelling, as well as work with human tissue culture systems and flowcytometry are particularly meritorious.
