The current position provides an opportunity to work together with researchers at the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine Solna, as well as researchers at other departments at Karolinska Institutet through being part of CLINICUM (https://staff.ki.se/clinicum-common-support-structures-for-clinical-and-translational-research-within-ki-and-the).

CLINICUM is a collaborate effort between Karolinska Institutet and Region Stockholm that aims to facilitate clinical and translational research by providing methodological research support and strengthen the prerequisites for medical research, data access and collaboration in the region. CLINICUM is organised in 7 local nodes maintained by the caregivers in the region as well as Karolinska Institutet. The current position will be based in CLINICUM’s Solna node that is hosted by the Division of Clinical Epidemiology (KEP), Department of Medicine Solna, Karolinska Institutet. KEP offers a thriving research environment with a large group of statisticians and epidemiologists, linked to research groups conducting population-based epidemiology with a strong clinical anchoring.   

Part of the work for this position will also be performed jointly with the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Medicine Solna, Karolinska Institutet which consists of eight research groups performing research, education and care for diseases that affect the musculoskeletal system. Extensive research is conducted related to the etiology, molecular pathogenesis, therapy and outcomes in several of the most severe chronic rheumatic inflammatory conditions such as Sjögren´s syndrome, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and myositis.

Your mission

We are looking for a highly motivated biostatistician to join our team, to work on projects investigating the pathogenesis and disease mechanisms for autoimmune rheumatic diseases as well as be part of the research support team provided by CLINICUM Solna. The work involves data management, epidemiological study design, data analysis and responsibility for research documentation. The successful candidate will be joining a multidisciplinary team of clinical researchers, statisticians and epidemiologists.

The rheumatology projects are conducted by the research group of professor Marie Wahren-Herlenius studying the underlying factors such a genetics and triggering environmental factors and the resulting pathogenic autoimmune process in Sjögren's syndrome and congenital heart block with the aim to develop prevention, novel diagnostics and therapeutic approaches.

Your profile

The successful applicant should have the following qualifications:

  • Candidate or master degree in statistics, mathematical statistics or medical statistics
  • At least 5 years of experience from working with medical research (academia or industry)
  • Good knowledge of programming using statistical software, e.g. SAS, Stata or R
  • Practical and documented experience (e.g. published manuscripts) from observational register-based research
  • Experience of working in mixed competence teams and in communicating statistics to non-statisticians.

Excellent knowledge of spoken and written scientific English and strong presentation skills are essential. In the assessment of the candidates, we place particular emphasis on interpersonal skills.
