- with focus on education and research
The Department of Laboratory Medicine has a strong focus on research and education. This area connects basic research, clinical research, and patient care. The role of the department is to refine and translate knowledge from basic science to patient care, in close collaboration between university, hospital, and industry.
The Division of Clinical Microbiology conducts research, teaching, and clinical activities related to disease processes caused by human pathogenic viruses and bacteria. In the subject area of clinical virology, we are announcing a Senior Lecturer position to ensure the department’s strong research and teaching profile, where we need to meet future needs within the teaching programs for biomedical analysts, doctors, nurses, dentists, among others. We are looking for a Senior Lecturer in clinical virology with a strong translational research profile who will drive method development and contribute with a deep understanding of virus-host interactions, how they are affected by genetic variability and virus activity, and how they affect the immune response and disease progression.
The position is focused on education and research. We are looking for a senior researcher and teacher who can develop the subject of clinical virology, primarily through understanding factors that influence the course of the disease, where the goal is to optimize treatment for everyone, avoid and manage the development of resistance by combining and developing advanced techniques to study virus-host interactions. Supervision of doctoral students and teaching, including course responsibility, at the department's undergraduate program and master's program is expected, including in the courses, scientific methodology and degree work in biomedical laboratory science in the biomedical analyst program. As a Senior Lecturer, you are expected to contribute to academic leadership and be involved in the department's development in research and education. In addition, a future Senior Lecturer must actively contribute with their subject expertise in basic and clinical virology, as well as be able to develop and follow up the department's teaching responsibilities within education programs at undergraduate and master's level.
To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical expertise and good scientific expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).
The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.
The applicant must be an active and independent researcher in clinical virology with a focus on virus-host interactions, specifically interaction with the adaptive immune system, and have received external research grants over time.
The applicant must have documented experience in doctoral supervision as main supervisor, as well as knowledge and experience in leading, developing and following up teaching in biomedical laboratory science.
Since the position includes academic leadership, teaching including course responsibility and acting as an examinator on the department’s undergraduate program, the applicant must, in addition to English, possess knowledge and skills in the Swedish, Norwegian, or Danish languages (C1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (GERS).
