Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. IMM also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine and IMM scientists participate in national and international expert groups.

The unit of Environmental Epidemiology is focused on advancing knowledge about disease etiology and prognosis with an emphasis on environmental and lifestyle factors. The unit has a strong track record of successful national and international large-scale epidemiological studies investigating health effects of ambient air pollution, community noise, diet and other environmental exposures. In a multidisciplinary environment, we collaborate with leading research groups worldwide using advanced study designs to provide robust research data and inform public health policy. We frequently participate in environmental health risk assessments for national as well as international organizations and authorities. These assessments are often based on research conducted within the unit. We are now looking for a postdoctoral researcher to our unit, for a fixed-term employment of 2 years.

Your mission

The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in a project aiming to investigate how diet and lifestyle factors influence health from childhood to early adulthood, focusing on cardiometabolic risk factors. The project is based on an ongoing birth cohort (BAMSE) where 4089 participants has been followed from birth (https://ki.se/en/imm/bamse-project). In BAMSE, we have detailed information on diet obtained through repeated food frequency questionnaires and biomarkers. In addition, we have extensive information on cardiometabolic risk factors (e.g. obesity, blood pressure and blood lipids) up to age 24 years.

The postdoctoral researcher will take part in planning and conducting research studies, including data management, statistical analyses and manuscript writing. The postdoctoral researcher is also expected to undertake a limited amount of teaching, supervise students, and to participate in grant writing, dissemination of research findings and health risk assessments.
