Unit of Biostatisics, Institute of Environmental Medicine, Karolinska Institutet

The Unit of Biostatistics seeks a biostatistician for a new permanent position. The Unit was established in 2010 at the Institute of Environmental Medicine and is responsible for the Biostatistics Core Facility at Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm County Council. The Unit conducts cutting edge research within the areas of theoretical and methodological statistics, epidemiology, medicine, public health, among others. Institute of Environmental Medicine is a department at Karolinska Institutet and an interdisciplinary research institution within the broad field of environmental medicine. It also serves as a scientific advisor to public authorities within the area of environmental medicine.

Your mission

The Unit of Biostatistics can offer an ideal environment for a new biostatistician to develop and grow professionally and personally. The new biostatistician will collaborate with researchers in the areas of epidemiology, toxicology, and clinical, molecular and genetic research, in

  • planning and designing of research studies
  • statistical analyses and programming
  • interpretation and dissemination of scientific results
  • teaching and seminars
  • data management in collaboration with database developers

In addition, the new biostatistician will have the opportunity to attend courses, participate in conferences and workshops, and be involved in the activities of the Unit of Biostatistics.

Your profile

A degree in biostatistics, statistics, applied mathematics, or related field is expected. Knowledge of some statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, SPSS, R, S-plus) is required. Communication skills are important, as the positions will involve collaborating with non-statistical researchers. Ability to work on multiple tasks at the same time is necessary. Interest in professional development in biostatistics is strongly appreciated. Previous experience in research or consulting in some public-health-related area is desirable but not required.
