The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The Division of Clinical Chemistry is carrying out research to elucidate the molecular basis of cardiometabolic disease integrating basic science, clinical medicine and translational approaches. We operate a contemporary mass spectrometry platform for the analysis of small molecules for biomedical research purposes, either in a targeted or untargeted fashion.

We are currently looking for a motivated laboratory technician to assist in the preparation of samples for various projects using biochemical techniques and interpreting the results obtained. The position is temporary.

Your mission

In your role as a laboratory technician, you will prepare samples, solutions and reagents according to the laboratory's standard formulae and procedures. In addition, you will process and interpret analytical results for customers. You will follow established procedures to perform trace organic analyses on a wide range of samples/matrices, mainly body fluids and work on sample preparation within the laboratory to ensure that samples are prepared for analysis in accordance with the requirements set.
The work will involve the use of mainly single and triple quadrupole LC-MS instruments, together with other laboratory equipment, as required.
In addition, the daily work includes routine maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical equipment and routine maintenance and troubleshooting of LC-MS instruments.

Your profile

We are looking for someone with experience of working in an accredited analytical testing laboratory in the field of clinical chemistry. Furthermore, you will have experience and understanding of Waters LC-MS systems with single and triple quadrupoles operating in both ESI and UniSpray modes.
Familiarity with MassLynx software is a requirement. Experience with sample preparation techniques such as liquid-liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, etc., experience with routine maintenance and troubleshooting of LC-MS based systems, and experience teaching and instructing biomedical analysts is a prerequisite for success in this position. Since we work in an international environment, good skills in English is a requirement. Experience in the operation of mass spectrometric machines and chemical extraction protocols is an advantage.
