Are you a junior researcher looking for new experiences and merits before your next career step? Having recently obtained a new register-linkage to study prescribed drug use during pregnancy, we seek an experienced and motivated research assistant to help with both preparation and completion of planned projects within an international collaboration funded by the NIH.
This is a temporary position for 4-6 months.
You will be a part of the broader DDP (Drugs During Pregnancy) project run by Sara Öberg (docent, principal researcher) at the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
Since pregnant women are excluded from clinical trials, we must rely on observational data to understand both the safety and effectiveness of prescribed drug use in pregnancy. While important safety concerns have been raised regarding several medications, many findings are controversial and based on studies with methodological flaws. The goal of this project is to advance our understanding of the risks and benefits of specific prescribed drugs in pregnancy, through extensive and creative utilization of Swedish population register data.
A driven and capable candidate will be given opportunity to contribute to all aspects of the project, from improving the understanding and use of prescribed drug data (review and validation) to executing advanced analysis, from orienting literature reviews to manuscript drafting and finally from formulating new project ideas to complete funding applications.
You have a medical background (physician or midwife) and demonstrated experience of epidemiological research through postgraduate education (PhD/MPH) with research practice.
Since the work includes evaluation of the prescribing of drugs in Sweden, a good understanding of Swedish, the Swedish health care system and the clinical circumstances under which prescribing occurs is required. English being the working language in the department, research group and field at large, the applicant must be a good communicator in both spoken and written English.
Previous experience of register-studies is meriting, and candidates interested in pharmacoepidemiology and women and children’s health are particularly welcome.
The applicant should be thorough, efficient and independent. Given the varied tasks, special emphasis will be placed on versatility and personal suitability.
