Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The bioinformatician position is placed in Prof. Richard Rosenquist Brandell’s research group at MMK. The research is focused on applying next-generation sequencing and other omics technologies to explore key molecular events in hematological malignancies. The group is located at BioClinicum, and includes PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, senior researchers, and bioinformaticians. The group works closely with Clinical Genetics at Karolinska University Hospital and Science for Life Laboratory.

Your mission

The research projects focus on analyzing the importance of molecular features for development of hematological malignancies, in particular chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), the most common adult leukemia. Through in-depth characterization of specific subgroups of CLL we aim to map key molecular events that contribute to the disease pathogenesis at the genome, transcriptome, methylome, and proteome level.
Our projects focus on analyzing large-scale short/long-read next-generation sequencing, single-cell, and multi-omics data as well as implementing and testing new technologies. We aim to recruit an independent and motivated person who can set up and maintain workflows by implementing or adapting existing tools. Ultimately, these efforts are aimed to drive the development of precision cancer medicine.
The appointed person will work with molecular biologists, physicians and bioinformaticians, as well as actively participate in national and international collaborative research projects.

Your profile

Applicants should have a PhD in a field related to the position, such as bioinformatics, biotechnology, engineering, physics, or biomedicine. Further requirements are:

  • Documented experience in programming and analysis of next-generation sequencing and other omics data in human disease using R and Python.
  • In-depth knowledge of best practices in generating reproducible data analysis workflows.
  • Experience in handling Linux based servers and familiarity with HPC.
  • Experience with package/environment management systems, for example Docker, Singularity and Conda is a merit.
  • Experience in designing databases is a merit.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work both in collaboration with colleagues from different fields as well as independently.

Personal suitability is an important criterion.
