KI Biobank is a core facility hosted by MEB for all departments at KI. Its purpose is to provide professional sample and data services to medical research that improves healthcare and public health. The facility typically serves defined research studies which collect and use samples and sample-related data. With over eighteen years of growing service the biobank now holds samples and related data from over seven hundred thousand Swedish residents.

The laboratory unit of KI Biobank operates and develops the sample services we offer to medical research. It is vital that its work maintains high quality and ethical standards and keeps pace with the rapidly evolving technology opportunities and needs of medical research.

We currently need to strengthen our laboratory service team and now seek a laboratory technician to join us. This is a full time, temporary position for one-year.

Your mission

Perform the routine laboratory processes including, but not limited to: sample reception, sample sorting and processing, manual and automated sample storage, DNA extraction, daily, weekly and monthly robotic maintenance, manual and automated sample withdraw, contribute to SOPs and other relevant documentation. Answer the lab telephone and follow up customer questions. The role reports to the unit head of the biobank lab.

Your profile

Qualifications

  • BSc/MSc degree in science subject
  • Experience of working in a biobank laboratory
  • Experience of operating and troubleshooting Tecan Evo laboratory automation
  • Experience of biobank manual sample handling and processes
  • Experience of LabVantage laboratory information management software
  • Experience of maintaining Roche PVT tube sorting instruments
  • Knowledge and experience of KIM (KI Biobank Manager) tool
  • Knowledge of automated sample stores
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Swedish 

Additional experience of merit

  • PBMC isolation experience
  • Experience of DNA extraction using Hamilton ChemagicStar Systems

  • Excellent communication skills and high standards of integrity
  • Very strong team and collaborative skills
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member
