The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.
The division of nursing conducts research within care science and education. Our aim is to improve health care for patients and relatives as well as for health care employees. The division’s research program aims to contribute to guidelines and new ways of working in healthcare from the patient's perspective, problems and needs, to ensure patients' health and well-being in every situation. Inviting the patient to work together is one of the cornerstones for achieving safe patient care. The focus of our research is value-based care, and its potential and significance for patients' health.
The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 6 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
The employment is placed in Yvonne Wengströms research group in the EFFECT, ExMed and ongoing exercise projects. Responsibilities include follow-up assessments (physiological tests and questionnaires) of patients with cancer included in the studies. Inclusion and training of patients in ongoing physical exercise studies. Responsibility for analysis of data, analysis of objectively measured physical activity measures, managing data in SPSS and eCRF, manuscript writing, and supervision of research students. Seeking funding for future studies, and participation in teaching.
Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than five years prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.
Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist.

For this position a University degree in Exercise Physiology, specialising in clinical populations, is required. The successful candidate must have a strong background in the field of clinical exercise physiology research (specifically exercise for people with cancer). The candidate should have experience in conducting exercise research trials for clinical populations. In addition to excellent speaking, reading and writing skills in English, the candidate should be able to communicate with study participants and so the candidate should be able to speak Swedish. The position will include teaching and research student supervision therefore you should have teaching and research student supervision experience.
Scientific expertise will be most important when assessing applicants.

An Assistant Professor employed in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 Section 12a shall be promoted to Senior Lecturer if he or she is eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer in accordance with the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet and is assessed to be suitable for such employment in accordance with the assessment criteria that KI has decided should be applied when being promoted to Senior Lecturer. The assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet that was valid at the time of appointment as Assistant Professor will be applied when applying for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
