Positron emission tomography (PET) is an imaging technique used to examine the function of the brain in healthy subjects and patients with neuropsychiatric conditions. The PET group at Karolinska Institutet is one of the world leading group within development of novel PET radioligands. We are now looking for an analytical chemist for a permanent position, full time.

Your mission

Positron emission tomography (PET) is a non-invasive molecular imaging technique increasingly used in biomedical research and drug development. A fundamental pre-requisite for PET is the radioactive tracer molecule used in the PET measurement, which can be designed with exquisite specificity to open up opportunities for research into completely new aspects of human physiology in vivo. There is a large unmet need for new PET tracer molecules and your contributions are vital to assist the PET group at Karolinska Institutet in their development. One of the most important applications of PET is to study various diseases in psychiatry and neurology and to develop drugs in collaboration with pharma industry. You will join a highly engaged team focused on the development and production of tracers for both preclinical and clinical PET studies.

Your profile

We are looking for a skilled and motivated analytical chemist with university education or equivalent. Experience to work and to develop analytical methods with HPLC is a requirement. You will analyze PET tracers and their radiometabolites in plasma samples in various research projects and be responsible for method development in PET radiometabolite analysis and QC analysis. Experience in HPLC analysis of PET tracers labeled with 11C and 18F in accordance with GMP regulations is meritorious, as is solid knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques, such as HPLC, GC and Endosafe. You will mainly analyze PET tracers prior to being applied in different research projects. The research includes both animal experiments and studies in humans. The work at the KI PET group is carried out in a closely collaborative environment involving professionals with multiple areas of expertise. The ability to collaborate and coordinate activities is therefore of great importance. In addition, you must have good knowledge of English in both speech and writing.
