Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a skilled and motivated post-doc to join Nikolas Herold’s lab at the Division of Pediatric Oncology and Surgery, Department of Women's and Children's Health at Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Our research is translational and focused on improving cancer treatment by studying molecular mechanisms underlying therapy resistance and using this knowledge to develop novel treatment strategies. Our aim is to translate our preclinical work into clinical trials that can reach the clinic and patients in the near future.

Your mission

As a post-doc in this group you will partake in and lead pre-clinical research studying resistance mechanisms in childhood cancer with a primary focus on bone sarcoma and acute leukemias. You will be involved in several projects regarding the molecular mechanisms of responses to chemotherapy and immunotherapy. For this, you will use various cellbiological and molecular techniques combined with bioinformatics for studies based in cell lines, primary patient samples, and animal models.

As a post doc, You are expected to play a leading role in the design and execution of experiments as well as the analysis and the presentation/publication of the results. You will also function as a part of our team and take part in supervising students, writing articles and applications as well as presenting your research on seminars and conferences.

Your profile

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a doctoral degree and strong experimental background studying mammalian cell systems using standard cellular and molecular techniques including, but not limited to, cell culture, Western blot, cellular imaging, cell sorting, and PCR. Experience in animal models and bioinformatics (e.g. R and Python) is a plus. A good understanding of cancer biology is advantageous but not mandatory. Previous international research experience, such as previous post doc, is also a merit.

The applicant is expected to work both independently and as a part of our team and to interact with other research groups as well as healthcare personnel and other partners. Strong English proficiency is a requirement.

A positive attitude and strong drive to pursue scientific questions within translational pediatric oncology is important. We are a devoted, helpful, and friendly team that values a good working atmosphere and emphasis will be put on personal qualities in the selection process.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
