The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts
research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. Key words are
multidisciplinary, bridging, translational, national and international collaborations.
The Schlisio lab at Karolinska Institute, Sweden, seeks a postdoctoral fellow to work on molecular
principles of tumor formation arising from the sympathoadrenal cell lineage (neuroblastoma,
pheochromocytoma, paraganglioma) to explore cell of origin, disease initiation and tumor heterogeneity.
We are seeking a motivated, creative post-doctoral candidate interested in exploring drivers of intratumor heterogeneity and phenotypic plasticity in sympathoadrenal tumors, such as childhood neuroblastoma and pheochromocytoma. Intratumor heterogeneity and high plasticity account for therapy resistance. Causes of plasticity cell state transitions during tumor progression remain poorly understood. Currently, there is no effective treatment that addresses cancer heterogeneity. Systematic characterization of dynamic properties of intratumor heterogeneity and phenotypic plasticity can guide treatment strategies and improve clinical outcome for cancer patients.
We aim at elucidating the origin and heterogeneity of sympathoadrenal malignancies, such as pheochromocytoma and childhood neuroblastoma by developing a new analytic and experimental approach based on single-cell transcriptomics with integrated mass spectrometry. We generated novel tumor mouse model systems and include human tumors to perform comparative differentiation trajectory analysis, to make predictions and, finally, to perform preliminary validations of envisioned tumor differentiation strategies.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
Successful applicants must have the following skills:
