Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

Are you interested in developing and translating advanced cell therapies and making new treatments available to patients? The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of seven divisions in which both research and teaching are carried out. The department is involved in advanced research in both basic and applied research. All departments carry out activities in close contact with clinicians at Karolinska University Hospital.

We are currently looking for a laboratory engineer for the Katarina Le Blanc research group. For 20 years we have been studying the in vivo and in vitro effects of mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in health and disease and have pioneered the clinical use of the cells. The lab is part of a modern research environment at ANA Futura, Flemingsberg.

The position is a fixed-term appointment for more than 6 months.

Your mission

As a laboratory engineer, you will participate in the assessment and optimization of large-scale expansion of clinical-grade cells using manual and automated systems. Performing laboratory work is a major part of the position.
You will assist senior staff in the assessment of the clinical product, e.g. phenotypic characteristics and functionality using existing potency assays and new assays to be developed. You will also assist senior staff and postdoctoral students in routine laboratory work. You will assist in the organisation and administrative day-to-day running of the laboratory, such as administration related to chemical and biological work and the induction of new members of the team. We are looking for a highly motivated individual to further develop large-scale expansion of an advanced therapy drug product (ATMP) for various clinical conditions.

The position involves close industrial collaboration with The Pharmaceutical industry.

Your profile

We are looking for someone with a background in molecular biology, biomedicine or biotechnology. A bachelor's degree or equivalent is a requirement. Practical experience in laboratory work, especially in cell culture and biological assays, is essential. In addition, knowledge of the use and administration of electronic research documentation is required and experience with chemical registers (e.g. the Swedish KLARA system) and risk assessments will be considered an advantage. A good command of English both orally and in writing is required. Knowledge of Swedish both orally and in writing is an advantage.

As a person we expect you to be well organised and able to work independently. You take responsibility for your own tasks but also work well in a team. You enjoy working in a very dynamic environment with varied tasks and enjoy providing good service to the team. Furthermore, you are detail oriented but also energetic and creative and you fit in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment with academic and industrial partners.

In this recruitment we place great importance on personal characteristics.
