Do you want to contribute to better health for all?

Do you want to explore hematopoiesis from a unique perspective with the latest single-cell technologies? Then you should join our team working at the intersection of experimental and computational medicine.

Your mission

Your mission is to decipher normal and malignant hematopoiesis with focus on mast cell differentiation. The research is performed in an interdisciplinary setting with strong collaborations with clinical departments as well as national and international research groups. Key technologies applied to primary samples from healthy subjects and patients with mast cell-related hematologic diseases include FACS sorting, cell fate assays, single-cell omics, and methods to genetically manipulate cells, such as CRISPR-Cas9.

Your profile

The research in Dahlin’s lab is experimental and computational in nature. We are looking to recruit a person with a strong wet lab background. Experience with FACS, library preparation for sequencing (such as for scRNA-seq and scATAC-seq applications), and techniques to genetically manipulate cells is required. You are curious and you want to contribute to shaping your own postdoc experience, including your projects. You also need to be organized and keep detailed records of data and experiments.

You need to demonstrate a strong ability to lead projects independently and show excellent teamwork and cooperation skills, as you will work in a dynamic group of scientists with different areas of expertise. Proven ability to write scientific articles and orally present results is required. Excellent communication skills in English are necessary, as the group has an extensive network of international collaborations.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

At KI, you get to meet researchers working with a wide range of specialisms and methods, giving you ample opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience with the various scientific fields within medicine and health. It is the crossover collaborations, which have pushed KI to where it is today, at the forefront of global research. Several of the people you meet in healthcare are educated at KI. A close relationship with the health care providers is important for creating groundbreaking top quality education and research. Karolinska Institutet is also a state university, which entitles you to several benefits through our collective agreement.

Location

The position is located within the Department of Medicine, Solna. The department consists of twelve divisions and each division consists of several research groups. The position is located within the research group of assistant professor Joakim Dahlin. The interdisciplinary team consists of researchers studying hematopoiesis using experimental, computational, and/or mathematical approaches. Dahlin’s group belong to the Division of Allergy and Immunology, with several groups working in the field of immunology or with mast cell-related research. Several projects are performed in collaboration with physicians and researchers at Karolinska University Hospital.
