Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

Your mission

You will be working at the National Centre for Suicide Research and Prevention of Mental Ill-Health (NASP) with a small team made up of the creators of Youth Aware of Mental health (YAM), a school-based mental health promotion program in which youth explore mental health that has been conducted with more than 80,000 youth in 16 countries. In their work, the team continues to center play and to create space for inclusive and youth-led dialogue about well-being. In a new research project, we are focusing on youth-led programs and spaces, and will investigate how mental health correlates with leisure time over which youth are given various degrees of autonomy. By investigating leisure time, we hope to bring forward equitable youth initiatives, spaces, and practices in the post-COVID recovery.

We are seeking a Project Coordinator to participate in the development of the above-mentioned project. The position requires a substantial degree of independence and the person in question will work closely with the Project Leaders to develop, coordinate, and implement the project.

The Project Coordinator will perform a variety of complex research tasks, including, developing interview guides and questionnaires, conducting qualitative interviews and focus groups with youth and youth workers, performing secondary research, analyzing qualitative data, assisting with ethics board-related activities, performing literature reviews, drafting and updating the research plan and drafting project reports. Coordination activities include convening meetings, coordinating field visits, documenting activities, and maintaining collaborative relationships.

We are looking for an individual with a strong background in qualitative research methods and youth work in an out-of-school-time setting. This position is an opportunity for such an individual to deepen their passion for interdisciplinary engagement and social impact.

  • Strong writing skills: an ability to fulfill copywriting, copy-editing, and proof-reading deadlines independently.
  • The ability to work both independently and in a collaborative setting.
  • Curiosity and an aptitude to learn a wide variety of areas quickly; a passion for going beyond your area of expertise.
  • Excellent analytic and communication skills.
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and demands.

Desired qualifications

  • Extensive experience working with youth outside the school setting.
  • Familiarity with pedagogic non-hierarchical strategies and youth-led projects.
