Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist who is interested in working in a dynamic team at the forefront of translational Alzheimer’s disease (AD) research. We are based at the new research building BioClinicum in Solna. Bioclinicum is connected to the hospital and the Karolinska Institute's new research house Biomedicum as well as the new Comparative Medicine-Biomedicum animal facility. We aim to understand the mechanisms behind risk factors for neurodegenerative disease as AD by using a wide spectra of mouse models, in vitro systems and samples from patients.

Your mission

The selected postdoc will lead a scientific project that aims to uncover the biological role of Thioredoxin 80 in the brain and during AD progression. The postdoc will employ both in vitro systems as well as different mouse models. Part of the project will require in vivo work that requires viral transduction in AD mouse models brains followed by transcriptional profiling of microglia.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. We expect that you have your PHD within the area of biomedical research with experience in handling clinical samples, working with mouse models, neurochemistry, and particular assays like ELISA, immunochemistry, fluorescence microscopy, qPCR, western blotting, RNAseq, and primary cell culture of different brain cell types. An educational background in neuroscience is desirable together with a strong interest in microglia functions in neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation as well as oxidative stress. Having obtained a FELASA B certificate would be also considered an advantage.

The successful candidate will also be expected to have an established record of high-quality scientific research and publications, ability to work both independently and as a member of a collaborative, scientific team, excellent verbal and written English skills, and to write and apply for grants.

Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
