The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 540 employees and a revenue 2023 of 530 million SEK. It comprises seven divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Aging Research Center (ARC), a division within NVS, is located at KI Campus Solna, Stockholm. It is a multidisciplinary academic environment, representing medicine (e.g., neurology, epidemiology, psychiatry, geriatrics), psychology (e.g., cognition, structural, functional, and molecular brain imaging), and social gerontology (e.g., sociology, public health, social epidemiology, social work). The center has around 70 employees, it has a strong focus on research with unique research resources, such as large-scale longitudinal studies and nationwide registries.

Your mission

The selected candidate will work on geriatric epidemiology, with a primary focus on nutrition and other lifestyle factors in brain aging. The postdoctoral researcher will design and conduct original studies using data from large-population based cohort studies with the goal of identifying possible strategies for dementia prevention and the promotion of healthy brain aging. The specific area of research will involve investigation of relationships between diet, cardiometabolic and genetic risk factors, and dementia. There will also be opportunities for collaboration with other researchers on projects related to aging and various health outcomes.

The postdoctoral fellow will be involved in all stages of the research process. Responsibilities will include designing research studies, analyzing and interpreting data, writing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting findings at conferences.

This is a temporary position of two years.

Your profile

We are looking for you who are highly collegial and able to work well in a cross-disciplinary team as well as having the ability to work independently. The applicant must also possess good organizational skills, attention to detail, and analytical skills. The successful candidate is expected (1) to hold a doctoral degree in medical science; (2) to have experience of working with epidemiological data in the field of neuroscience, psychology or neurology; (3) to have previous work on dietary, medical, and genetic data; and (4) to demonstrate good skills in statistics, and oral- and written-communication in English.

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
