Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

We are looking for an ambitious postdoctoral fellow with solid immunology and single-cell skills to join our highly accomplished team. We offer a stimulating environment in a rapidly moving research frontier. The successful candidate will be part of a cluster of other researchers working on similar topics.

Your mission

The Buggert group conducts innovative studies of cell-mediated immunity in health, cancer, and viral disease. These studies are translational and involve the usage of cutting-edge bulk- and single-cell technologies, including high-parameter flow cytometry, gene-editing, RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, TCR-seq, and proteomics analysis to dissect the heterogeneity and function of memory T cell immunity. Through these platforms, we study different aspects of human memory T cell biology, with an overall aim to i) study the heterogeneity of circulating and resident memory T cells in human organ donors, ii) identify alternative functions of memory T cells in human tissues, and iii) understand how memory T cells maintain control of tumors and viral infections, such as SARS-CoV-2.

The postdoctoral candidate will work with questions centered on virus-specific T cell responses after vaccination. The candidate will also collaborate closely with different group members to implement single-cell RNA-seq barcoding techniques to mechanistically track how human memory T cells respond to vaccination in tissues and blood. As such, we seek a postdoctoral candidate with a Ph.D. who will work as an integrated team member and drive his/her project forward.

Your profile

To be eligible for employment as a postdoctoral candidate, the candidate must have documented Ph.D. research experience in human T cell immunology after defending his/her doctoral dissertation.

The candidate should have been trained in immunology during her/his Ph.D. studies. The candidate should fully master (requirement) flow cytometry and single-cell technologies. In addition, a strong candidate should have a strong background in studying human T cell biology in viral infections, such as SARS-CoV-2. Applicants should have first-author publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals in human viral immunology. Fluency in English is a requirement.

  • Been trained in Immunology during her/his Ph.D. studies
  • Publications in the field of human T cell immunology
  • Statistical knowledge
  • Worked with multiparametric flow cytometry data sets
  • Extensive cell culture background
  • Adaptive immunology background
  • Fluency in English

It is meritorious that the applicant has

  • Laboratory molecular and cell biology skill sets (e.g. preparation of RNAseq libraries)
  • Been trained in medicine or biomedicine during her/his Bachelor or Master studies

After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the applicants in relation to the subject area, Karolinska Institutet will determine which of them has the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
