Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Onur Dagliyan’s Group at the division of Molecular Neurobiology. The lab’s research focus is to uncover experience-driven protein signaling mechanisms in the mouse brain by developing new techniques. The group is building a new interdisciplinary research as there is an immense potential for new fundamental insights to be discovered.
Neuronal activity dependent molecular signaling processes are central for brain development and plasticity. These molecular events form the mechanistic basis of complex neural computation, learning and memory. Experience-driven activation of proteins often at the post-translational level mediate the rapid events including synaptic modifications, metabolic adaptations, and the transfer of the cytosolic protein signals into the nucleus to influence gene expression. The Dagliyan laboratory focuses on specific molecular events in neurons happening at these different time scales, starting from the immediate modifications at the synapse, such as actin-modifying protein signaling, to longer time scale molecular events such as protein modifications that mediate transcription initiation, elongation, and RNA splicing, which are key processes for the behaviorally induced plasticity of neuronal circuits.

The Dagliyan lab is the newest member of the Unit of Molecular Neurobiology, composed of outstanding scientists applying interdisciplinary approaches to cutting-edge problems in a collaborative and stimulating environment. The unit is part of the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics residing in a new research building for Biomedical Research, Biomedicum, providing modern technological platforms and an open environment for interactions across departments and disciplines. While the principal investigator will work hard to achieve your career dreams, your mission will be to unravel molecular mechanisms by which experience-driven neuronal gene expression is controlled. In particular, you will perform experiments including stereotactic injection of AAV into the mouse brain, mouse brain dissection, behavioral assays, biochemical analyses, single-cell transcriptomics, and genomics, and potentially in vivo 2-photon live imaging. The recruited postdoctoral fellow is expected to play a leading role in experimental design, experimentation, analysis, as well as presentation/publication of results. You will also work with the collaborating laboratories to learn and adapt new techniques in case you do not have experience with the particular approach.
The applicant shall hold a PhD degree in one of the biological science fields. PhD in neuroscience/neurobiology is a plus. The candidates with previous mouse-work experience will be prioritized. Prior experience in studies of electrophysiology, transcriptomics, genomics or 2-photon imaging is a plus. The applicant needs to have a high degree of independence and motivation but should have no problems to work in a team given the collaborative nature of the project. Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
