The Department of Clinical Science and Education Södersjukhuset (KI SÖS) has a long tradition of Research and Education. Care Sciences is a fairly new topic at KI SÖS but recently we have supported this field with several new positions combined with clinical duties (one professor and 3 lecturers). Active cardiological research together with new assignments in the education of specialist nurses have made it possible to employ another Senior Lecturer.

Subject area

The field of Care Sciences focus on different aspects of care in health and disease. The nucleus of Care Sciences includes occupational and physical therapy, and nursing care. Care Sciences borders Medical Sciences and is often considered as a part of Medical Sciences. Care Sciences describes the situation in education and research at KI SÖS since it includes both nursing care and Medical Sciences. The research in the Cardiology Unit involves both qualitative and quantitative research in common cardiological diseases such as atrial fibrillation, myocardial infarction and heart failure.

Your mission

The becoming Senior Lecturer will be responsible for courses in the program for specialist nurses in medical care and parts of courses in the nurse program. The employment includes conducting your own research in cardiology. An important part of the work will be to develop an academical leadership within education at KI SÖS and cardiological research within the Cardiology Unit. 

The lectureship will be combined with clinical duty as nurse at the Cardiology Unit at Södersjukhuset, where clinical experience and knowledge is of great importance to be able to organize the clinical education and research in the best way possible. The employment involves 30% clinical work and 70% teaching and research.

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer with focus on education and research, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated excellent pedagogical expertise and good scientific expertise (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).

The applicant must have experience of education in basic and specialist nursing programs, clinical work and supervision on different levels.

The applicant shall also have completed 10 weeks of courses on teaching in higher education (or have equivalent competence), as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution.The position will be combined with a position as a nurse at the Cardiology Unit Södersjukhuset and therefore the candidate must be a registered nurse.Since the position includes clinical work, the successful applicant must, besides English, demonstrate proficiency in Swedish, Norwegian or Danish (C1 level according to the common European reference scale (CERS).

Bases of assessment

The Senior Lectureship has a focus on education and research. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: scientific expertise (2), pedagogical expertise (3), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), and clinical expertise (2).

For employment as Senior Lecturer at Karolinska Institutet, the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure 3.2.2 are applied in relation to established profile of employment.

It is particularly meritorious that the applicant has experience of both qualitative and quantitative research.
