Wredenberg group
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher interested in mitochondrial biology. Our research aims at identifying the molecular consequences of metabolic derangements, by understanding how mitochondria function within the metabolic system. For this, we use model systems, ranging from patient-derived samples, reprogrammed neuroepithelial stems cells to genetically modified animal models. We are specifically interested in the regulation of mitochondrial gene expression and post-transcriptional and post-translational modifications. The laboratory offers an outstanding research environment for basic and translational research with a close association to the Centre for Inherited Metabolic Diseases (CMMS) at Karolinska University Hospital.

We are part of the Division of Molecular Metabolism at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Karolinska Institute. Research at the division focus on understanding the regulation of mtDNA expression, using both molecular and structural approaches, study the role mitochondrial metabolism in neurodegeneration and cancer biology, as well as diagnose patients with inherited metabolic diseases. The successful candidate is expected to drive a research project focusing on mitochondrial RNA metabolism and perform molecular biological experiments in a range of model systems. The successful candidate is further expected to analyse and present data and develop the project to its full potential.
A strong background in molecular and mitochondrial biology and/or metabolism is favored. Comprehension in mouse and/or Drosophila genetics is preferred, but not required. Experience in handling large data and bioinformatic skill is meriting. A working knowledge of the English language is essential. Personal suitability is of great importance when evaluating the applicants.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
