A postdoc position in a project to develop a new diagnostic assay for rheumatoid arthritis is now open. It is placed at the Section for Medical Inflammation Research, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden, in a project led by Prof. Rikard Holmdahl.
The project aims at developing a sensitive and specific diagnostic test for rheumatoid arthritis and other joint inflammatory diseases.
And our group also aim to investigate the role of Ncf1 in regulating autoimmune diseases, with emphasis on systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. It involves work with unique mouse stains carrying human polymorph Ncf1 mutations that can be conditionally induced. Thus, the project is to identify the key cells under Ncf1 redox regulatory control and to explore the downstream intracellular pathway. On the basis of these findings, therapeutic approaches will be explored with the potential to translate these to clinical settings. The goal is to publish the results in leading international journals.
The research task involves studies of unique mouse strains with the major human genes associated with autoimmune disease, some of which are conditionally expressed. It is based on research teamwork with other postdocs and PhD students. The goal is to fulfill career goals towards being an independent scientist.
To qualify, the applicant must hold a PhD in medicine/biological/biotechnology science and have an outstanding experience in practical laboratory work and proven record in scientific publishing. A strong background in biochemistry, immunology or experience working with samples and data from clinical studies is required. Knowledge in statistical methods and bioinformatics is an extra plus.
Knowledge and skill in communicating in spoken and written English is a must.
Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.
The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.
