The epidemiological research at the Institute of Environmental Medicine (IMM) is focused on advancing knowledge about disease etiology and prognosis with an emphasis on environmental and lifestyle factors, and on methodological development and stringency. The work is conducted in a stimulating, international and creative environment. We are now looking for a talented and enthusiastic post doc with a background in epidemiology and biostatistics and a strong interest in diabetes research!

Your mission

This research project aims to study the etiology and prognosis of different forms of diabetes. The research is based on large, nationwide, register-based cohorts, as well as cohorts and case-control studies with extensive information from questionnaires and biological samples. The post doc is expected to work independently and formulate new hypotheses, handle databases, analyze data and write scientific papers. The work also involves teaching epidemiological methods at master level. The post doc position is for a period of two years.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

To be eligible, the applicant must have:

  • A doctoral degree in medical science in an area related to epidemiology
  • A formal education in epidemiology or statistics.                                                       
  • Experience in handling large databases, excellent data management skills and a solid knowledge of common statistical software (as a minimum SAS and R).

Competences, skills, and experiences considered meritorious:                                              

  • Excellent writing skills and excellent command of written and spoken English.
  • An ability to collaborate with colleagues within and beyond the group, and to communicate with authorities, data holders and other data owner groups.
  • Experience of diabetes research
  • A degree in medicine or related areas
