We have a two-year postdoctoral position available in the Division of Clinical Physiology, Department of Laboratory Medicine in Huddinge (KI South Campus). Our research aims to raise awareness of the relationship between physical activity and health, and of the causes of impaired body functions such as muscle wasting in disease or aging. Our research is conducted in close collaboration with the Unit of Clinical Physiology at the Karolinska University Hospital. Traditional metabolic and physiological measurements are combined with molecular analyses in various tissues as well as in primary cell cultures.
The work is embedded in the general focus of deciphering the molecular basis that governs physiological changes during space flight. The candidate will be involved in developing models and conducting studies to investigate the responses of human primary cells to microgravity and radiation. In addition, the postdoctoral fellow may participate in and support other research activities within the group. Your supervisor Will be Dr. Rodrigo Fernandez-Gonzalo, who is involved in ESA-funded studies and is part of an important international network of space physiologists.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
We are looking for a person with strong knowledge in molecular and cell biology and experience in phenotypic and molecular characterization of cell models.
Beneficial qualifications for the position are:
As a person we want you to be motivated, independent and able to drive projects forward. You should also find it easy to collaborate and take on the work with openness and curiosity.
