Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

Over 300 million people suffer from asthma and there is a great need of new effective therapy against the disease.  In line with this, the project will involve an exciting opportunity to define mechanisms for asthma that can be used as targets for treatments. This position is for 1,5 years and resides in the unit of Experimental Asthma and Allergy Research with a unique tradition of translational research of asthma with great possibilities to develop skills using advanced methods and models for asthma with the latest technology.

Your mission

The main project is to design, plan, carry out and analyze results from physiological and pharmacological experiments on in vivo models for asthma and other lung diseases in mice and guinea pigs. These experiments involve the use of advanced technology for lung exposure and measurement of different parameters for lung function. Another part of the project is to perform laboratory analyses such as histological examinations, flow cytometry, cell differentiation counts, molecular biology and measurements of inflammatory mediators in collected samples. Because the project is carried out in a translational research environment, the applicant will have the possibility to perform experiments on human tissues or cells. The aim is to enhance existing models and establish new practices, independently and in collaboration with co-workers.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

It is a requirement that the applicant has the formal authority of Function A or equivalent. The applicant must have strong interest in asthma or other lung diseases and have experience of experimental animal models. Practice with ELISA, PCR, flow cytometry and histology is preferable. You like to learn new methods and know that accuracy and a structured approach is essential for the success of the trials. Other important qualifications are experiences of working in project form, experience as a scientific coordinator, good computer skills (especially Excel, Word and statistical programs) as well as fluency in English as the research environment is international. Those who have fur allergies or illnesses that may be aggravated by daily exposure to laboratory animals are not advised to seek this position. We stress research expertise and interest in collaborative science when assessing applicants.
