Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are looking for a postdoc to join our research group at the Department of medical epidemiology and biostatistics, Karolinska Institutet, where we perform research on aging and age-related diseases using a variety of epidemiological and molecular epidemiological methods.

Your mission

The position focuses on a research project on Parkinson’s disease (PD), which is the second most common neurodegenerative disease, with a prevalence in the population at about 2%. Much remains to be understood about its causes and underlying molecular pathology. Moreover, at present, therapeutics available for PD patients only offer symptomatic relief, and there are no known medications to prevent the disease’s onset, or slow or halt its progression. We are conducting a research program with three major aims:

1) to clarify what environmental exposures cause PD

2) to examine molecular pathways underlying PD development

3) to validate promising new therapeutic candidates for use in PD prevention and/or treatment

Your role includes participating in all parts of the scientific process; perform literature searches, plan studies, manage data, perform statistical analyses, and write manuscripts.

Your profile

The applicant should have a PhD in epidemiology or a related discipline. Candidates need to have high skills in statistical analyses and experience of analyzing complex molecular data. Expertise in the statistical software R for data analysis is important, and experience in genetic epidemiological analyses, such as Mendelian randomization and genetic correlation is considered meritorious. An interest in neurological diseases is a prerequisite and knowledge in this field is meritorious. The candidate should also be highly competent in English.
