Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

You will join a multidisciplinary research team of doctors, epidemiologists, statisticians, machine learning researchers and engineers working to explore dementia and COVID-19, detect factors to prevent dementia, slow cognitive decline in patients with dementia, ensure high quality and equal access to dementia care throughout Sweden. We work in the SveDem group at the  Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (Professor Eriksdotter’s group) and collaborate with the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB, Campus Solna, Karolinska Institutet (Professor Johnell´s group)).

Your mission

Our group conducts registry research using the Swedish Registry for Cognitive and Dementia Disease (SveDem) (with over 100 000 patients) and other registries. For this project we will analyze registries with information on dementia, COVID-19, hospitalizations and diagnoses, prescribed medications, socioeconomics, long-term care for older individuals, dental health and death and its causes. We aim to determine which factors affect cognitive decline, functional and mortality outcomes in dementia. We also aim to study COVID-19 in older adults and in dementia patients, cognitive outcomes, risk for dementia after COVID-19 infection and how COVID-19 might contribute to neurodegeneration. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop their own projects with this data.

Your duties will include independent management of large datasets, data cleaning, performing statistical analysis at an advanced level, article and grant writing and driving research results through all stages of peer review until successful publication. Additionally, you are expected to collaborate and communicate with other members of the team, obtain ethics approvals and coordinate registry merging with Swedish authorities, provide epidemiological and statistical support for different projects in our group and receive knowledge in clinical aspects and the registers.

We encourage you to develop your own research projects and collaborations. A successful candidate can adapt easily and collaborate with team members with different knowledge and/or academic backgrounds.

Your profile

We are looking for a candidate with a strong background in epidemiology and statistics. A strong background in register-based analyses, multivariate and longitudinal data analysis, survival analysis, incidence and prevalence trends analysis is appreciated.
