The Integrative Physiology research group at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery at Karolinska Institutet is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the group of Professor Juleen R. Zierath. The research is focused on translational studies on cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes and the positive effects of physical exercise on glucose and lipid metabolism in skeletal muscle. The candidate will join our research group and work on projects focused on the identification and biological validation of key regulatory metabolic pathways that contribute to the development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. These studied metabolic pathways involves both energy sensing mechanisms as well as circadian control of metabolism.
The candidate will work on the regulation of insulin sensitivity specifically in skeletal muscle and adipose tissue but also on a whole-body level using several model systems. Projects cover disease mechanisms as well as protocol and assay development.
Expertise and research experience in analysis of microRNA and DNA methylation, cell biology and molecular biology is desired. Previous work with bioinformatic analysis is an extra merit. Research experience from analysis of human samples is also valuable, as well as an appreciation of in vivo endocrinology. The candidate must be fluent in English, have excellent writing skills and be able to take the lead on projects. We are looking for a cooperative candidate who thrives to work with others. The candidate will join an enthusiastic, collaborative, hardworking and dynamic team.
