The division of breast cancer research has the overarching aim to lower the incidence and mortality of breast cancer, a potentially fatal disease that is increasing dramatically throughout the world. The division leads several complementary efforts to achieve these aims, including the KARMA study of 71,000 women recruited at mammography screens, the Karisma study focusing on elucidating the effectiveness of Tamoxifen in breast cancer prevention and strong engagement in the international BCAC human genetics consortium. In addition, the unit leads the SCALLOP consortium, which is an international collaborative network for PIs with an interest in integrating human genetics with Olink proteomic data and clinical factors in human cohort studies. www.olink.com/scallop The overall aim of SCALLOP is to identify protein biomarkers that either correlate with disease or are causal in disease, with the latter being enabled by large-scale mapping of protein quantitative trait loci followed by Mendelian randomization studies.
