A postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Thomas Perlmann at the department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institutet. The lab is located at Biomedicum, a research building with excellent infrastructure and world leading research in many areas of biomedical science.
The lab’s focus is on the development and maintenance of dopamine neurons within the ventral midbrain. We are unraveling the signaling and transcriptional regulation that govern the specification, differentiation and maintenance of these cells. The studies have relevance for regenerative medicine and neurodegeneration in relation to Parkinson’s disease and other brain disorders. We are using mouse genetics and other methods including single cell RNA sequencing in our studies. In collaborative projects we also focus on regenerative strategies such as stem cell therapy, and on the maintenance of dopamine neurons in the human brain.
A postdoctoral position is now open in projects devoted to questions concerning subtype specification of dopamine neurons, and mechanisms underlying aging and dopamine neuron maintenance in relation to Parkinson’s disease.
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.
The applicant should be a highly motivated individual who can collaborate and function well in a team. We are looking for an individual with a PhD in neuroscience, preferably with expertise in neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Skills in more than one of the following areas are important: mouse genetics, tissue culture, histological methods and analysis of human brain tissue. Previous experience with mouse animal work is also desirable and appropriate certificate for mouse animal work (FELASA C or equivalent) is a merit. Excellent English oral and writing skills is a requirement.
