Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Clinical Neuroscience (CNS) conducts research and education in the field of neuroscience from the molecular level to the society level. The clinical research and education are conducted in collaboration with Region Stockholm as well as other research groups from Karolinska Institutet (KI) and other universities.

Description of the subject area

The Neuro division has a long history of successful research within neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, brain tumors, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and brain and spinal cord injuries. Much of this research today focuses on the role of neuroinflammation in diseases such as multiple sclerosis, to an increasing degree including genetic and immunological methods. The researchers within the division have significantly contributed to the rapid progress in this field and have been successful in attracting internationally competitive research funding. This has led to advances such as identification of disease-associated gene variants, environmental factors, CNS autoreactive T cells and to discovery of new potential therapies.
