Do you want to contribute to improving human health?

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB) is a department with a strong focus on basic science. CMB conducts research and education in cell biology, molecular biology, developmental biology, stem cell biology, cancer and infection biology. CMB is located in Biomedicum, a new interdisciplinary research center designed to concentrate much of the experimental research conducted at Karolinska Institutet Campus Solna under one roof to promote collaboration. Biomedicum houses approximately 1,200 researchers and other personnel and allows expensive equipment to be shared and utilized more effectively.

Maria G. Masucci research group

Our research aims to elucidate how viral products mimic or hijack key cellular functions in order to promote virus persistence and spread, and to understand how these viral strategies may lead to malignant transformation. We particularly focus on signaling pathways that are regulated by post-translational modification by ubiquitin, SUMO and NEDD8 The ultimate goal of our research is to identify new regulatory interactions that may be targeted to control virus infection and its potentially life-threatening consequences.

The project will investigate the molecular events that underlie the association between latent and productive viral infection and the regulation of autophagy.

Duties
