- with focus on research

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

We are now offering a position as Senior Lecturer in surgery with focus on epidemiology and biostatistics at the Research Group for Colorectal Surgery at the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery, combined with employment as a surgeon at Karolinska University Hospital. The research group conducts both epidemiological, clinical- and translational research and is a part of the Swedish Colorectal Cancer Study Group. The aim is that the research should lead to reduced morbidity and a longer life for the people who suffer from diseases in these organs.

Description of the subject area

Colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer in Sweden, approximately 7000 people are diagnosed every year. Treatment has improved but 30-40% still suffer severe relapses. Today, available treatments have the potential to prolong the lives of patients with relapses, but only a small percentage can be cured. There is therefore a great need to continue to develop predictive markers to reduce the risk of recurrence, provide more individualized treatment and targeted therapies, and thereby increase the chance of cure and reduce side effects for patients with colorectal cancer. For many years, the research group has been responsible for initiating and building several quality registries in parallel to running large clinical studies. In total, this has led to the construction of a database based on large amounts of complex data that constitute a unique opportunity for translational, epidemiological and clinical cutting-edge research in colorectal cancer in the coming decades.
