Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB) at Karolinska Institutet has about 280 researchers, doctoral students, statisticians, programmers, data collectors, database administrators and administrative staff. The department is also host to KI Biobank and is responsible for the Swedish Twin Registry. The organization has the critical resources and the infrastructure needed (servers/IT systems, database managers, and statisticians) to perform significant and innovative large-scale register studies.

The psychiatric epidemiology group at MEB is now looking for a postdoc who wants to understand and advance the management of adults with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and co-occurring cardiometabolic disease. The project is part of an EU Horizon 2020 project TIMESPAN. More information could be found here.

Your mission

We are looking for an outstanding and motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our research team. The successful applicant will work on projects to identify the cardiometabolic risks and benefits of multidisciplinary treatment approaches in patients with ADHD, by performing advanced pharmacological and epidemiological analyses on real-world data.

The postdoctoral researcher will work with an international research team. The main role involves data management, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and career development initiatives, including submitting funding applications.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

The successful applicant is expected to have:

  • Experience and knowledge in conducting epidemiology studies on neurodevelopmental disorders, such as ADHD.
  • Experience in handling large-scale health record data, such as Nordic register-based data.
  • Advanced data management skills using statistical software (e.g., SAS, R or Python).
  • Experience in systematic review and meta-analysis, as well as formulating research questions based on existing evidence in the field.
  • Experience in conducting pharmacoepidemiological studies to investigate both short-term and long-term treatment effects using different study designs and statistical methods.
  • Self-motivated personality, as well as good project and time management ability.
  • Experience of working in a research consortium is a merit.

We are looking for someone who works well in a team and is motivated to work independently to reach your own and the research groups goals. To succeed in this position you need to be structured and flexible to handle and meet the deadlines in the projects.

This is a position of 2 years with possibility of extension.
