The research at the Unit of Integrative toxicology covers a wide range, from experimental and observational studies to mathematical modelling and applications in risk assessment and risk management. The aim is to highlight areas that are crucial for risk assessment, with a focus on health and safety at the workplace, indoor air quality and chemical accidents.
You will be working as a Senior Research Specialist in the project Molecular patho-mechanism of biomass smoke induced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD): Population based- and in vitro exposure studies. Exposure to biomass smoke (BMR) in developing countries, e.g. among women in India, is a major risk factor for development of COPD, in parity with tobacco smoking.
To be eligible for employment as a Senior Research Specialist, in addition to holding a Degree of Doctor, PhD, or having equivalent scientific expertise, the applicant must have demonstrated good level of research expertise with significant scientific production. The applicant must also have demonstrated a good scientific independence to which their own contribution has been significant and a research plan of high quality with clear potential for the future. Own grants within the field and being qualified as an associated professor (docent) would be advantageous.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a degree in biomedicine or a related field. High weight will be given to documented skills needed in the project, including: field studies in developing countries, personal monitoring of exposure to air pollutants, lung spirometry, biological exposure and effect markers (e.g. exhaled CO, FeNO, COHb, CRP, blood differential test, oxidative stress markers, cytokines, chemokines), modern biochemical analytical methods (e.g. ELISA, multiplex immunoassays), lung cell cultures, and scientific writing in English. Additionally, experience in epidemiology, statistics, toxicology, lung physiology and lung medicine is advantageous.
